Today, GALE, MilkPEP, and actor Charles Melton have launched the first-ever Milk Man Hydration Calendar, a culture-first social campaign that turns internet thirst into a direct path to hydration. The calendar features Melton in a series of playful, retro-inspired images that put dairy milk and its hydration benefits front and center. GALE and MilkPEP partnered with Charles Melton as the calendar’s inaugural Milk Man as he has become one of the internet's favorite crushes, with a comment section that proves his internet thirst-factor, making him the ideal face for a campaign built to get people talking.
“We’re playfully leaning into what we see in internet culture – the thirst trap. From the comment section to video edits of your favorite celebrity, the thirst is everywhere. The Hydration Calendar is a fun twist to help consumers rethink what they reach for when they’re thirsty because milk hydrates better than water,” said Josh Brathwaite, Managing Director of Creative at GALE.
The campaign was built around a core idea: harness the internet’s obsession with thirst traps and position milk as the beverage that can truly quench that thirst. Kicking off with a teaser released on National Hydration Day (June 23), the campaign leans into one of the internet’s most recognizable behaviors, the “thirst trap,”’ to remind consumers that, when they’re thirsty, they’re going to need milk because milk hydrates better than water. Fans who commented on Melton’s June 30 “milk hydrates better than water” Instagram post received a direct message from Gonna Need Milk (MilkPEP’s Instagram handle) with a link to purchase dairy milk through Gopuff and unlock a free physical copy of the limited-edition calendar. For fans outside participating markets, a digital version of the calendar was available for download.
“Hydration is top of mind for consumers, and dairy milk deserves a bigger role in that conversation,” said Yin Woon Rani, CEO of MilkPEP. “Research shows dairy milk hydrates better than water, and this calendar is a fun reminder that when you’re looking to hydrate, you’re going to need milk.”
The campaign also extended beyond the comment section. A lucky few fans received surprise deliveries from fellow milk enthusiast Mr. Fantasy, who has been spotted bringing dairy milk and the limited-edition calendar door-to-door in the name of bringing “hydration to the masses.”
